REV. DR. EVAN BURROWS
I was born on the Island of New Providence in the Bahamas. Both my parents were and are committed christians so I cannot remember when church and Jesus were not a part of my life. I accepted Christ as my savior at the age of 9 and have never looked back. I often tell people that I truly love the church both the organism and the organization.
At the age of fourteen I attended my church's annual Missions Conference and was deeply moved by a message from Isaiah 6:8 which states; "8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
In that moment I knew my life calling was to serve God in vocational ministry. Upon graduation from high school I enrolled in Florida Bible College, Hollywood, Florida and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biblical Education and Pastoral Studies. Further studies have led to a Master's Degree in Christian counseling and a Ph.D. in Religious Philosophy.
Some of my most rewarding ministry experiences have been the years I spent in youth ministry. As I observe the now adults who were evangelized and nurtured in the faith and now serve God with zeal and conviction I am humbled.
My wife and I moved to Tampa in 1995 and shortly thereafter joined the First Baptist Church of College Hill under the leadership of the late Dr. Abraham R. Brown. In 1996 Dr. Brown invited me to join the staff of First Baptist as its first fulltime youth pastor. In November 2005 I was elected Assistant Pastor with responsibility for administration. Upon the retirement of Rev. Brown, the church called me to be the next pastor on May, 28, 2008.
My primary spiritual gifts are Teaching and Leadership which I seek to live out daily.
Since assuming the lead pastor role, our church has experienced steady growth of just under 200 individuals per year. I am passionate about the local church and am committed to developing competent and committed leadership in the local church to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century.
Rosa and I are the proud parents of two boys, Henry and Andrew.
